Volkswagen proudly announced that the Wolfsburg plant in Germany manufactured 15 million Golf units while the total units manufactured by the German manufacturer exceeded 27 million units. The model with 15.000.000 number was a special Golf GTI model in order to celebrate the record and was painted in Tornado red. The German model managed to be sold in more than 27 million copies during 36 years and six generations.

Few years ago Volkswagen also released a commercial celebrating the 25th million Volkswagen Golf copies sold around the world. The video shows us the Golf model in several big countries such as London, Shanghai or Sydney, where the German model became more and more popular over the years.

Press materials dub the new off-road racer as a mixture of revolution and evolution, but we’d argue the RT3 is primarily built from evolution. For the most part, the dune-blitzing Touareg resembles last year’s Race Touareg 2, although the front and rear clips have been tweaked to incorporate LED lighting and resemble the all-new 2011 Touareg SUV.Underneath that skin, the Race Touareg 3 resembles the Race Touareg 2, and continues to utilize a custom tube frame chassis and independent suspension with long-travel dampers. Power continues to come from a 2.5-liter TDI turbo-diesel I-4, although it’s been gifted with an improved cooling system and a larger intercooler. As a result, VW says it’s rated at 310 horsepower, roughly 10 ponies over last year’s truck. That extra power, channeled through a five-speed sequential gearbox, allows the Race Touareg 3 to blitz from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds, and hit a top speed of 117 mph on virtually any surface. The next Dakar rally won’t commence until January 2011, but Volkswagen’s already planning a massive assault upon the Argentinean rally. VW expects to enter four Race Tourareg 3s in the event, piloted by some stellar names. Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz managed to win the 2010 Dakar event, while Giniel de Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz won the race in 2009.via Volkswagen courtesy of Automobile Magazine Staff

Previous spy shots have revealed a longer wheelbase will be present, and although the new car will be larger than the outgoing one, the use of lightweight materials in its construction should ensure a lighter kerb weight and improved mileage. This latest computer-generated rendering shows the wagon version or “Variant,” which is due approximately one year after the launch of the sedan in late 2011.

Under the hood, a replacement for the R36’s 3.6-liter engine will be in place, putting out close to 300 horsepower from a displacement of 3.0-liter. To improve mileage and maintain power, the new engine will also be using direct injection, while the rest of the powertrain lineup is expected to benefit from some form of forced induction as well. Other models will include a new hybrid as well as a high-performance diesel with all-wheel drive.
